Since numbers were not supplied, I'll use variables,d,s,v:
An airplane is flying from New York City to Los Angeles. The distance it travels in miles, d, is related to the time in seconds, s , by the equation d = v*s. How fast,v, is it flying?
Since d = v*s, when can solve for v by multiplying both sides by 1/s:
d / t = (v * s) / s = v
Therefore
v = d / s
