The discount price would be amount you would pay after receiving the 20% savings. If the regular price is represented with the variable x, then the amount left to pay after "taking off" the 20% would be 80% of the regular price. This could be written as 0.80x
As an example, let's say that a candy cost $2.00 as a regular price. Then assume that it is on sale for 20% off. You would save : 0.20 * $2.00 = $0.40
The amount left to pay (discount price) would then be $1.60
0.80 * $2.00 = $1.60
