you plan to join a gym near your new home. universe fitness will charge you $250/year plus an additional $3.50 per fitness class you attend. silver's gym charges $400/year but only $2 per fitness class. find the number of fitness class you would need to attend in a year for the cost of both gyms to be the same. what would be the cost of using either gym at that point?

Let's say the number of classes you take is c.To find the total cost per year for each gym the equations would be:

Universe Fitness----> 250 + $3.50c

Silver Gym------> 400 + 2c

Now just set them equal to each other and solve:

250 + 3.50x = 400 + 2c

-400 -3.50c

-150 = -1.5c

/ -1.5

100 = c

So you would have to take 100 fitness classes for the cost to be the same. To find the cost, plug 100 in for c in either of the equations:

250 + 3.50(100) = 250 + 350 = $600
