Need help answering this math question...

Question

Mercury travels around the sun at a speed of approximately 1.72 x 105km/hr. Expressed in scientific notation how far does it travel in one day? Recall that distance = speed x time.

Again, I have the answer for this equation, but am not understanding how it's done. If anyone could explain it, it would be greatly appreciated.

There are 24 hours in one day, so if it goes 1.72 x 10⁵ km in one hour, then it will go 24 times as far in 24 hours.

(24)*(1.72 x 10⁵) = 41.28 x 10⁵ = 4.128 x 10⁶ km.
