asked 11/26/19What is the slope of the line? What does the slope mean?
In an experiment, a car began traveling at a constant speed at 1PM. Over a period of 5 hours, the car traveled a total 160 miles A graph shows the relationship between the length of time that the car had been traveling since 1:00 PM and the number of miles that it had traveled. What is the slope of the line? What does the slope mean?

The slope is the how many units the graph goes up or down over how many it goes left or right, as a reduced fraction. We know that distance depends on both speed and time, right?
If the car went 160 miles over 5 hours, the slope is 160 miles/5 hours, or 32 miles/hour.
The slope of 32 mph means that every hour, the car travelled 32 miles.

Is it a plot of distance vs. time or time vs. distance? If the former, the slope is the speed. If the latter, the slope is the reciprocal of the speed.11/26/19
