If the relationship is linear, use a ratio. Let z = the unknown, then
20/8 = z/68 Then z = 20(68)/8 = 170
If the relationship is linear, then you treat it as a ratio
20/8 = unknown/68 So, the unknown is 20(68)/8 = 170
You could also look at it another way.... 68/8 = 8.5 So, 8.5 x 20 = 170
or you could look at it as a proportion, let y = kx where k is the proportionality constant,
the first information tells you that k = y/x = 20/8 = 2.5
So,
y = 2.5(68) = 170 If the relationship is linear, many methods work!
