Imagine that the quotient of N divided by 6 is a mixed number. Using both interpretations of division, what does the fraction part of the quotient represent?

the division problem is N divided by 6

the divisor is 6

the Quotient becomes the whole number part of the mixed fraction....

the REMAINDER goes on the TOP of the fraction part of the mixed fraction...

the DIVISOR goes on the BOTTOM of the fraction part of the mixed fraction...

EX.

41 / 6 = 41 divided by 6

the divisor is 6

the quotient is 6 with remainder 5

so the mixed fraction is 6 and 5/6

THink of it like this:

you have 41 slices of pizza, and each pizza PIE has 6 slices

so you will get SIX (6) whole pizzas with 5 slices left over...

which is 6 and 5/6 pizzas
