I know how to do it, but I don't know what its called.

D: [-4,-2] means that the domain (set of allowable values of x ) is [-4,-2]

If the question is asking for the range (set of allowable values of y), then plug in -4 and -2 for x, so that the range is [4, 6]. Using the same type of notation as for the domain, we could write R: [4,6].
