Write an equation of the line, in standard form, given the slope is -1/3 and the point (5,-2) is on the line.

I need help on this because I can't write in standard form. Thank You for the help.

Hello, this helped me, thank you. My only question is how did you get -1/3 on the b when you had 5/3 before? Thanks.

In the equation you have the slope -1/3 then in parenthesis you have (x -5). You know anything outside the parenthesis needs to be distributed or multiplied by the number on the outside. -1/3(x - 5) -1/3(x) - 1/3(-5) -1/3x + 5/3 when you multiply a fraction and a whole number the whole number goes in the numerator and the two negatives became a positive.
