To complete this you must recognize the "key words":
sum/ and= addition (+)
times = multiplication (x or *)
minus = subtraction (-)
equals = both sides of the equation are equation
for example 5 = 5 or 4-1 =5
a number = unknown usually using x or n
If we take it step by step you get:
1) 6 times ---- 6 multiplied by
2) the sum of a number and 2 ----- 6 multiplied by the addition of a unknown number plus 2
*** remember our order of operations here***
3) equals two times the unknown number ----- 6 multiplied by the addition of a unknown number where 2 equals 2 multiplied by the unknown number
4) minus 5 ---- 6 multiplied by the addition of a unknown number where 2 equals 2 multiplied by the unknown number subtracted by 5
1) 6*
2) (x+2) ----> 6*(x+2)
3) = 2* -----> 6*(x+2) = 2*
4) -5 ----> 6*(x+2) = 2*x - 5
6*(x+2) = 2*x - 5
We use parentheses around (x+2) as it says sum rather than add or and
(for example if it says six time a number plus 5, we would right 6x+5, veres if it says 6 times the sum of a number plus five, we write 6(x+5) )
