We have two pieces of information: tons and containers.
We know that 15 tons fits into 4 1/6 containers. We want to know how many tons fits into 1 container.
Let x = number of tons in one container
4 1/6 = 25/6
we’re going to set up a proportion with tons over containers
Tons
Containers
15 =x
25/6 1
cross multiply : 15 = 25/6 x
clear the fraction by multiplying the denominator 6 to both sides:
90 = 25 x
Divide by 25:
x = 3.6 tons per container
hope this helps!
