Let's start with the first thing we want to know: the fraction of the pieces sold.
We know 36 pieces were sold. But we don't yet know how many pieces we had altogether. You can find this total number of pieces by multiplying the number of pieces in a batch by the number of batches.
6 pieces per batch x 8 batches = 48 pieces total
The fraction of pieces sold to total pieces is simply 36/48. This can be reduced to 3/4.
Next, what is the fraction of batches sold. We need to know first how many batches were sold, but we were only given how many pieces were sold. What we can do is change pieces to batches. Let's do this by taking
36 pieces sold/6 pieces per batch = 6 batches sold
If 6 of the 8 batches were sold, then we can turn this into a fractions. 6 batches sold/8 batches total = 6/8 = 3/4.
