In 1960, the world record for the men’s mile was 3.91 minutes. In 1980, the record time was 3.81 minutes.

Part 1~ Write a linear model that represent the world record ( in minutes) for the men’s mile as a function of the number of years since 1960.

Part 2~ Use the model to estimate the record time in 2000 and predict the record time in 2020.

(3.91-3.81)/(160-180)=(T-3.81)/(Y-180)

You can massage this around to solve for T, then use the formula to get your estimates.

Please note: use 200 for yr 2000 and 220 for yr 2020
