The worktop is to be covered with square tiles, each measuring 4 cm by 4 cm. How many tiles are needed to cover the worktop?

The surface area of the worktop is 3.04m squared. Not quite sure how to work it out though.

The surface area of the worktop is 3.04 m^2 or 304 cm^2 through the conversion 1 m = 100 cm.

The formula for the surface area of the tiles is length*width, in the case of a square it is side^2.

The algebraic equation is surface are of worktop = number of tiles*(side^2)

304 cm^2 = tiles*(3.04cm^2)

Solving for tiles = 304 cm^2 / 3.02cm^2

Number of tiles is 1900.
