The residents of a city voted on whether to raise property taxes. The ratio of yes votes to no votes was 5

. If there were 5951

 total votes, how many yes votes were there?

Since the ratio is 5:6, then the total is 11 and therefore the 2 groups will be 5/11 and 6/11.

So,

the yes votes are 5/11 x 5951 = 2705

the no votes are 6/11 x 5951 = 3246

Total = 5951
