1/2f - 1/6f = 2

 

You will now need to determine the common denominator for 2 and 6 in the fractions 1/2 and 1/6. 

The common denominator is 6.

 

Therefore, you will multiply the 1/2f by 3 and the 1/6 by 1.  The resultant equation is:

 

3/6f - 1/6f = 2

 

2/6f = 2

 

Divide both sides by 2/6

 

(2/6f)/2/6 = (2)/2/6

 

f = 6

 

 

CHECK

 

1/2f - 2 = 1/6f

 

(1/2)(6) - 2 = (1/6) (6)

 

3 - 2           =      1
