Math and computer tutor/teacher
P = 2L + 2w
88 = 2(w+6) + 2w
88 = 2w + 12 + 2w
88 = 4w + 12
76 = 4w
w=19
Rectangle 25 x 19

Let x is Width and (x+6) is length.
Perimeter: P = 2 [x + (x+6) ] = 88 ==> 2 [ 2x + 6 ] = 88 ==> 4x + 12 = 88
==> 4x = 76 ==> x = 19 in
Therefore, width = x = 19 in
length = x + 6 = 25 in

Linda,
The perimeter of a shape is the sum of the lengths of all the sides.
So for a rectangle, the perimeter is (2 * Length) + (2 * Width)
Let’s use L for length and W for width and rewrite this:
Perimeter = 2L + 2W
88 = 2L + 2W
And since length is 6 more than width, we can say L = 6 + W.
Let’s plug this back into the equation so that we have
88 = 2(6 + W) + 2W.
It’s smooth sailing from here!
88 = 12 + 2W + 2W
76 = 4W
W = 19, so your width is 19 inches. Since length is 6 more than width, length is 25. And let’s just double check:
88 = 2(19) + 2(25). ⭐️
Hope this helps! :)
