When the ratio of two values is 8:1 the difference in values will always be a factor of seven.
Therefore, when adult tickets sold is 1 children will be 8 and the difference is 7. This relationship will remain constant.
Given that, when the difference is 147 7 times the number of adult tickets sold will be 147. Therefore, the number of adult tickets sold will be 21 and the number of children tickets sold will be 168. TheTOTAL TICKETS SOLD is 21 + 168 = 189.
Let x = number of adult tickets
Then,x+147 = number of children's tickets
8/1 = (x+147) / x
x + 147 = 8x
7x = 147
x = 21
They sold 21 adult tickets and 168 children's tickets.
