Let's say the unknown, the number of hours Enrique worked is E. Then Alexandra's hours, A = 2E.
We also know A worked 17 more than E. so A = E + 17
We can set the equations equal to each other 2E = A = E + 17 2E = E + 17 E = 17
E worked 17 so A worked 34 hours.
To understand that A worked 4 hours for every 2 that E worked, it is the same as saying A worked 2 hours for every 1 hour E worked.
