Finding the length and width when only given the area

A rectangular carport has area of 150 square feet. The width of the carport is five feet less than twice its length. Find the length and the width of the carport.

A=L*W

W=2L-5

150=L(2L-5)

150=2L²-5L

0=2L²-5L-150

0=(2L+15)(L-10) (factor)

2L+15=0 L-10=0

L=-15/2 L=10

*Cannot have a negative length so go with L=10

If L=10, then W=15
