Let's start by getting all of the x terms on the same side of our equation. We'll do this by adding 2 to both sides, then adding px to both sides:
-px + r + 2 + px = -8x - 2 + 2 + px
Simplifying:
r + 2 = -8x + px
Next, we will factor out x on the right side:
r + 2 = (-8 + p)*x
which is the same as:
r + 2 = x* (p - 8)
Then divide both sides by (p - 8)
(r + 2)/(p - 8) = x
And there we have it.
