X + Y = 19 and X - Y = 3.

Let X = 3 + Y


X + Y = 19 ==> 3 + Y + Y = 19

2Y = 16

Y = 8.


X + 8 = 19, so X = 19 - 8 = 11


Note that 11 - 8 = 3
