Hey, Derek! I think we can take care of this one for you.
It’s important when writing sentences as inequalities to focus on a few simple things.
- What is the variable?
- What is the relationship between the value and the variable?
- Remembering how to use greater than > and less than < to communicate that.
This one is fairly straightforward. The variable is X, so we start there.
We have to have the variable (X) be greater than 3.
So the inequality symbol has to be “open” toward the X. The most traditional way of doing that for the purposes of sentences is the “greater than” symbol. >
Let’s put it together...
X is greater than (>) 3.
The answer is X > 3
(If you did it the other way, mathematically it would be equivalent, but not for the sake of saying the expression as 3 < X would be 3 is less than X and we don’t want that.)
