Let the 3 parts be called A, B, and C.
Let A+B+C = 846
It is given that B = 2*A and C=3*B, but B = 2*A, so C = 2*3*A = 6*A
The sum can be written in terms of A.
A + 2A + 6A = 846
9A = 846.
Divide both sides by 9 to find that A = 94.
B = 2A = 188
C = 3B = 3*188 = 564
94+188+564=846
