Many times you will need to use trigonometry to find h.
Example:
You would use the Pythagorean Theorem to solve for h. h2 + 32 = 52 so h = 4

Mathematics Teacher - NCLB Highly Qualified
A = (1/2)(b1 + b2)h
2A = (b1 + b2)h
2A / (b1 + b2) = h

I went back and looked at this answer and I think I didn't understand your question when I read it originally. Sorry. I think you meant to ask, using the equation for the area of a trapezoid (A=1/2(b1+b2)h), solve it for h. If that is what you meant then multiply both sides by 2 [giving 2A = (b1 + b2)h] then divide both sides by (b1 + b2) to get 2A/(b1+b2) = h09/23/19
