As a square all 4 sides are of equal length, each the square root of 92
9 squared is 81 10 squared is 100 the square root of 92 is about half way between 9 and 10, maybe 9.6 or so. 92 is slightly closer to 100 than to 81. so move the tenths digit up by one from the midpoint, 9.5 + .1=9.6
Punch it into a calculator, it shows up as a little above 9.59, round it off to 9.6 inches
Most calculators have a square root function.
There's also a "long division" type way to calculate square roots by hand.
Starting at the decimal point group the digits in pairs, as 92. 00 00 00
Pick the highest number that squared is less than 92. That's 9
9 x 9=81. Subtract 81 from 92, giving 11. bring down the next pair 00, to get 1100
double the 9 to get 18. Now pick a digit to put with 18 to get 185. You want the largest digit (5) that will make 185 divide into 1100 without going over 1100. 185 divides into 1100 5 times with remainder 175 It almost divided a full 6 times. That meant the square root of 92 was almost 9.6.
But for an exact number it was 9.5 plus some more decimals.
take down another pair of zeros tack them onto the remainder to get 17500
now double the last answer of 9.5 to get 190 tack on another digit to get 1909. This divides into 17500 9 times with remainder of 319. That means the square root of 92 is slightly more than 9.59
Or just google" how to find a square root by hand" and they'll explain it with chalkboard or a video. Several websites show up.
