PROBLEM
Calculus problem...
Let f(x)= 2x^2-6x+7. Find f(a+h) - f(a)/h
SOLUTION
First, find f(a+h) by substituting a+h for x;
f(a+h) = 2(a+h)^2-6(a+h)+7.
Use FOIL or Box Method for the first term and the distributive property for the second term.
Simplify f(a+h).
Second, use a similar process to find f(a).
Third, subtract f(a) from f(a+h), combine like terms, cancel opposites, and simplify--factoring h out of the result.
Fourth, divide f(a+h) - f(a) by h, cancelling the common factor of h in the numerator and denominator.
