To simplify means to 1) reduce the equation to as few terms as possible, and 2) get any variable in the equation alone, if possible.
For this example, the first step is to reduce:
5v - 10 = 50
--> Add 10 to both sides to get two terms instead of 3
5v = 60
--> Next, get the variable v alone by dividing both sides by 5
v = 12
Since there is now nothing else I can do to this equation, it is considered simplified.
