Elementary and Algebraic skilled
Let's start by finding the areas.
A = πr2 (Area of a circle is Pi * radius squared)
Asmaller = 9π (half of 6 is 3, 3 squared is 9)
Alarger = 49π (half of 14 is 7, 7 squared is 49)
Now lets see how many calories is in the 14-incher by finding the ratio:
590/9π = x/49π
Since the math problem is telling us to estimate, let's round off:
590/10π = x/50π
Isolate x by multiplying both sides by 50π:
590 * 50π/10π = x
Factor out 10 and Pi
590 * 5 = x
Let's not quite solve that just yet. we can do some cancellation by throwing in the slice part. If the pizza is cut into 8 slices, then each slice is going to be 1/8 of the pizza:
590 * 5 / 8 = slice
We can factor out a 2:
295 * 5 / 4 = x
1475 / 4 = x
1475 is close to 1476:
1476 / 4 = 369
So there are around 369 calories in each slice.
