The perimeter of a rectangle is 96 yards. The length of the rectangle is 6 yards less than 3 times the width. Find the length and width of the rectangle.

96 = 2 ( 3w-6 + w)

= 2(4w-6)

8w - 12

108 = 8w

54 = 4w

27 = 2w

w = 27/2

L = 3(27/2) - 6 = 81/2 - 12/2 = 69/2

check : 2 [ 69/2 + 27/2]

= 2 [ 96]/2

= 96

the length is 69/2 = 34.5

the width is 27/2 = 13.5
