asked 09/02/19Using PhotoScape X, how to erase only one color from an image
I have a png image file with different colors throughout. I want to erase everywhere there is one chosen color (for example, white) so that color is replaced by transparency. I have the image editing program PhotoScape X, which I think should be able to do this, but I can't figure out how. I'm on a MacBook Pro computer... I used to do this with the Paint program on a Windows computer using the replace command, so I think it should be easy on my mac. If PhotoScape X can't do this, can you tell me a free image editing program that can do this on my mac computer?

GIMP is an open-source (free) image editing program with many similarities to Photoshop, that I highly recommend. In GIMP, you can select a color with the "magic wand" tool, and then delete it, or fill it with another color. If you are wanting to delete white, as in a background, you should select the white area(s), then invert the selection. Next, copy the Inverted selection and paste it to a new layer. Then delete the first layer. You then have the color image with transparency where the white was. Save the image in the .png format. Png files will preserve the transparency in the image.
