We know that Area = length * width, and the Area = 150 square feet
let w = width of bedroom and l = length of bedroom
We are told that the length of the bedroom is 5 feet less less than twice the width.
What we need to do is to write this mathematically. Do you see that twice the width is 2w, and that 5 feet less is minus 5? If so, then you can write the length as 2w -5. And the Area = length * width equation becomes 150 = w * (2w - 5)
distribute the w and subtract 150 from each side to get a quadratic equation in standard form.
2s^2 -5s -150 = 0 You can now use the quadratic equation to solve.
