-7 1/6 + 3 5/6
Here, you need to "borrow" one whole from -7, just as you do with subtraction of whole numbers longhand.
= -6 + -6/6 + -1/6 + 3 5/6
-6 + -7/6 + 3 5/6
= -3 + -2/6
= - 3 1/3 or -10/3
