With the school year beginning, here are a few things to keep in minds for solving chemistry problems:
1.) Read the question carefully. Make sure that you understand what the question is asking. Often times, students misunderstand the question and think the question says something when in reality, the question is asking something else. I have found it helpful to ask students to write out the details of the question into what is known and what is unknown.
2.) Know the needed equations. Look at the homework and class notes to determine what equations you are need to know.
3.) Make sure the answer makes sense by checking the answer for correct sign, units, and significant figures.
