I just need the equation, I've figured out everything else, but i'm still told im wrong every time

In your problem description it left out the variable to use to represent the original price. For purposes of demonstration I am using the variable 'x'. Be sure to use the correct variable when submitting the answer.
Since we have 4 cds and the sale price is 80% of the original cost I wrote the following:
4(0.8)x = $30.40 Here the 0.8 is the decimal for of the 80%
3.2x = $30.40 Divide both sides by 3.2
x = $9.50 FINAL ANSWER
