The bed is 48 in by 30 in and 15 in tall. Two 48 by 15 sides are needed and two 30 by 15 sides are needed. The square foot area of the 48 by 15 inch sides is found by multiplying 48 by 15 to find the square inches and dividing by 144 to find the square feet; 5 square feet. The square foot area of the other two sides is 30 times 15 divided by 144 which equals: 3.125 square feet . A top and bottom are needed thus multiply 48 by 30 and divide by 144 for each. Thus 10 square feet are needed for the top and 10 for the bottom. Add all up 10 + 10 + 5 + 5 + 3.125 + 3.125 = 36.125 square feet.
