Note that -2x² does not mean to take -2x and square it. It means find x² first and multiply x² 's result by -2

it is customary to graph the x (independent value) on the horizontal axis, and to graph y, (dependent value) on the vertical axis.

So, we label the horizontal axis "x" and the vertical axis "y".

You could have just as easily labeled the axis g(x) or f(x) or h(x).

think of it this way,

g(x) = -2x² is the same as y = -2x²

f(x) = x² is the same as y = x²

h(x) = 1/4 x² is the same as y = 1/4 x²

so your table should look like:
