Try to do something vs. Try doing something?

Is there any differences between \n\n> Try to do\n\nAnd\n\n> Try doing\n\nThank you in advence.

To me, there’s a difference in tone. “Try doing” is a friendly suggestion. “Try writing her name in the blank first.” Okay, I’ll give that a whirl. “Try to write her name in the blank first” implies that that’s the way to do it: I must remember to write her name in the blank first.
