Multiplication is used because you want the probability that both raspberry gummy AND red licorice occur. Addition would be used if you wanted the probability that raspberry gummy OR red licorice occurs.

asked 08/05/19Question down below
"Eduardo has one bag with 6 blueberry and 4 raspberry gummy worms. he has another bag with 4 red and 8 black licorice sticks. if eduardo takes one gummy worm and one licorice out of each bag, what is the probability that he will get a raspberry gummy worm and a red licorice?"
the equation would be:
4/10 · 4/12 which then equals 2/5 · 1/3 = 2/15
but I'm a bit confused onto why we multiply the ratios by each other instead of adding them.
