Advection is the transport of a substance or quantity by bulk motion
Essentially, advection is the motion of something due to the motion of something else. An easy way to visualize this concept is to think of a floating piece of wood being moved in a river by the current. The same notion applies to a quantity such as heat; heat can be moved from volume A to volume B by moving the matter that is hot from A to B.
