For this type of problem, you will multiple the number of combinations in each digit place by the length of the number. So for this problem is is a possibility of 2 digits in each of the three places in the three-digit number: 2 x 2 x 2 = 8.
However, if you are counting a zero in the first digit as two-digit number, as in 044 being 44, then this reduces the number of of combinations to 6.
