a cyclist travels at a rate of 20 km/hr for 30 minutes. the rider takes a half-hour lunch break and then proceeds to travel 30 km in the next 60 minutes. what is the bicyclist's average speed over the entire trip?

Hi Jon,
         You usually don't count the 1/2 hour lunch break in the total time. It doesn't make sense. Suppose he stayed overnight in a motel for 12 hours and then continued to cycle. Would you count the 12 hours in his total time ?
