multiply the whole number times the numerator of the fraction, and put this over the denominator of the fraction
5*(2/3)=(5*2)/3=10/3
the next step is to express any improper fractions as mixed numbers in simplest form
10/3=3 1/3
sometimes you can simplify before multiplying
12*(3/4)=(12*3)/4=36/4=9, or...
(12/4)*3=3*3=9
4*(9/20)=(4*9)/20=36/20=1 16/20=1 4/5, or...
9/(20/4)=9/5=1 4/5
sometimes the answer may be a fraction in simplest form
3*(7/25)=(3*7)/25=21/25
finally, you can put a 1 under the whole number and multiply the two fractions the way you would ordinarily multiply fractions
5*(3/16)=(5/1)(3/16)=(5*3)/(1*16)=15/16
