They use statistics because in every field this method allows us to interpret data. In psychology, a lot of data occurs after research. They use statistics to measure relationship strengths and how variables change eachother.

For example, if a psychologist wanted to know how different drugs affect behavior. They would use graphs to describe the outcomes!
