Standard deviation and percentage

Question

The marks in a class were approximately normally distributed. If the mean was 52 with a standard deviation of 5 approximately what percentage of students achieved a mark above average?

Answer 1

The normal distribution curve is always symmetrical about the mean. That means 50% lies above the mean and 50% lies below the mean. If "above average" means above the average (or mean), then 50% got above average scores.

But I feel like there is more here than this.
