What you have is a rational equation. Basically you are adding fractions. Try finding a common denominator of x^2 on both sides of the equal sign. Cross multiply, set equal to zero and you get the following quadratic equation 3x^2+8x-1 = 0. Plug into the quadratic formula to solve for x. Check your solutions back in the original equation as only one solution is valid. Hope this helps.

I checked my solutions by graphing the original equation. The only place that the graph crosses the x-axis is at -2.79. The other solution, while it satisfies the quadratic, it doesn't satisfy the original equation.

1/0.11962-3=8/0.1196
1/0.0143-3=66.889
69.93-3=66.889
66.93≈66.889 (this is with approximations)
How can it not be a solution ? The only condition on the equation is that x≠0 ??
