First of all, this student runs VERY FAST! That being said, you can calculate the distance that they run using the formula distance = rate x time. However, this would give the distance that they ran from the starting line. If you want to find the distance from the finish line, you would have to subtract that number from 3, which is the distance to the finish line. The rate would be 1 km / 2 min., or 0.5 km/min. So, the formula would be:
distance from finish line = 3 - (0.5x), where x is the number of minutes since starting the race.
