Number of hockey sticks in first group = x
number of hockey sticks in second group = (x+9)
number of hockey sticks in third group =( x+9)/ 2
number of hockey sticks in fourth group =(x+9)+(x+9)/2 - 5
=(2x+18+x+9-10)/2
=(3x+17)/2
The number of sticks in the fourth group is also twice as many as the number of hockey sticks in the first group
3x+17 / 2 = 2x
3x+17=4x
x=17
Number of hockey sticks in first group = x= 17
number of hockey sticks in second group = (x+9)= 17+9=26
number of hockey sticks in third group =( x+9)/ 2=26/2 =13
number of hockey sticks in fourth group =(3x+17)/2 =(3(17)+17)/2 = (51+17)/2 =34
