C-14 can't readily "decay" into Nitrogen
The 14 here means it has 6 protons and 8 neutrons. The The half-life for the radioactive decay of C−14 is 5730 years. But that would give you C-13.
In order to get Nitrogen you would have to gain a proton. The only way to do that is bombarding with an alpha particle. (Which would actually add 2 protons).
I dont see anyway for carbon to spontaneously decay into Nitrogen in a plant !
