This is Algebra 1 Solving Systems of Linear Equations with the Elimination Method. I'm in high school and i don't undertsnad it that well. If you could please step by step tell me how to do this, that would be kindly appreciated.

It's also called "combination"---and maybe a few other things. The idea is to modify one of the equations so that, when the equations are either added or subtracted, one of the variables is removed, This allows you to solve for the other variable.

Simple example:

#1: x + 2y = 3

#2: 3x + 9y = 27

multiply #1 by 3 to get:

#3: 3x + 6y = 9

then, subtract #3 from #2:

#4: 3y = 18

So y = 6

Finally, plug in 6 for y in either equation, and solve for x
